What I hate about talk radio
The commercials. I'm glad they
get advertising, but the cattle-auction rapid fire delivery of stupid pitches for dubious products just turns me off. In fact it turns me off so much, I rarely listen to talk radio, even shows I otherwise like. They're not even
memorably bad, just annoying. It's like all your e-mail spam about refinancing being screamed at you.
Talk show hosts and producers, listen to your shows, including the commercial breaks, and see what I mean. Insist on some production values, some modulation in the script reading, because if an ad (or series of ads) drives away listeners it's a loser for you in the long run.
I guess I could listen to Air America, where they don't have any advertisers, but apparently they suck.
Oh, and THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A BETTER TIME TO BUY GOLD!
Yeah, just like you've been saying since 1992. Schmucks.
UPDATE: Kathryn Jean Lopez just had a similar thought. Cialis? Geez, it really is like somebody shouting your junk mail box at you.

I agree, the ads are cheesy and annoying, so I just turn the volume down for a few minutes until they pass.

I listened to the radio about 5 minutes last year, to see if there was anything worth hearing.
Well, the battery was still good.
Watch. Those podcasts are going to get advertising in them, just as cable TV did once people got hooked.

I don't think I've ever heard a talk radio show all the way through, and this gives me a good reason not to start. I listen to CSPAN mostly, and to PBS as long as it's not some idiotarian rant. The rest of the radio dial is pretty much barren territory to me. I'm pretty sure the reason is that every time I try to listen to anything else the commercials drive me away. How could there possibly be anything worth listening to in the midst of such utter garbage? It's like presenting a beautiful dish on Iron Chef with roaches crawling all over it. Who gives a damn what it might taste like?

I meant NPR not PBS. Well, that's obvious I guess. Heck, I even like Garrison Keillor as long as he stays away from politics. In the DC area NPR has the Diane Rheims Show. She's an interviewer who has a modest speech impediment of some sort, that sounds a bit like she has MS or something. But she tends to have guests across the political spectrum and manages to allow her guests to come through without the distortion of her own views (unlike Charlie Rose, who has to be the worst interviewer in history).

Demosophist, most of that NPR stuff is too precious and smug. Believe me, I like good talk radio, and even certain bad talk radio, and I would listen more if I could do so discreetly at work (not a place I want to pump out the Ingraham) and the commercials were the least bit clever.
Come to think of it the calls irritate me too. It's too much like a blog post with a bunch of idiots commenting--except that every one gets read aloud. There are good callers--I've called in to national talk shows before, and I'm brilliant--but too many times what Clarence in Costa Mesa has to say about affirmative action is not ready for prime time.

I hate the moronic PSA's. I think they're designed to make people stupid, especially those about "do something with a kid" and the ones from Red Cross that start out;"I don't look like you... (abnormally long pause), I don't dress like you... I don't etc. like you... but I will save your life." I hate the Red Cross with a burning passion as it is, and I damn sure don't want some of their lowlife scum resuscitating me.

Oh yes, and the gold thing, what a scam! I think better long term investments are lead and copper, specifically in increments of .223 or .308 inch, along with a fortified bunker in the hills, long-shelf-life food, and a good supply of potassium iodide.

The commercials are a festering boil on the ass of civilization.
What is worse are the legal disclamers at the end. 539 words uttered in 18 seconds. The aural equavilent of fine print.
If I die and go to hell, I will spend eternity listening to Susan Estrich fire off an endless string of radio disclaimers whilst being poked in the hinder by a pitch-fork wielding Rosie O'donnel.

I listen to talk radio all day through the streaming audio on my PC. Of course, I'm the only one in my office so it's not an issue. And the commercials ARE inane. TV has gotten just as awful. I counted 39 commercials during one half-hour show. Over saturation.
But every now and then that truly funny commercial will come on and we'll laugh like fools. The funniest part is that the commercial is sometimes so good we can't remember what the product was.

Army of Ansar al-Sunnah--In SWEDEN!?!?!
The Army of Ansar al-Sunnah has released a video in which they claim they are testing explosive devices in Sweden. They also threaten to use the 'high explosive' device. The video may be
downloaded here (hat tip: Doubletap). Images from the video posted below.
While the video proports to be from Ansar al-Sunnah, it bears the markings of an Islamic Army in Iraq (IAI) production. The IAI uses a free version of Elecard for its video productions. However, the two groups are both affiliated with al Qaeda and have been known to collaborate in the past.
Sweden has a sizeable Kurdish and Arab immigrant population. While most Kurds are very pro-American, a very small minority supports the establishment of a Taliban-like state. The Army of Ansar al-Sunnah is an offshoot of now defunct Kurdish Army of Ansar al-Islam, and may also include Arab elements.
The Army of Ansar al-Sunnah is notorious for murdering hostages in Iraq. The group recently released a propaganda video showing the remains of Marine sniper Jeffrey A. Boskovich. For more information on the evil deeds of The Army of Ansar al-Sunna, I suggest doing a Jawa search for 'ansar'.
Was this video really produced by violent jihadis living in Sweden as it claims? It remains a distinct possibility. I have a feeling this post will be updated in the coming days.

Dhimmis No More Down Under
Australia may follow the Brits example and ban all groups advocating jihad and the establishment of the Caliphate.
CNS:
Australia may follow Britain's lead in banning an Islamist organization that claims to repudiate violence while openly campaigning for the re-establishment of a single Muslim state or caliphate.
If the Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO) finds Hizb ut-Tahrir to be a terrorist threat, the group will be outlawed in the country, Prime Minister John Howard said on Monday....
Hizb ut-Tahrir is already restricted in Germany, Russia and in parts of the Middle East and Central Asia. It is not, however, on the U.S. State Department's list of foreign terrorist organizations....
Australian Hizb ut-Tahrir spokesman Wassim Doureihi told the country's Nine Network television station his party supported the anti-coalition violence in Iraq.
"If we talk about occupied land then we have to expect the people to resist the occupation," he said....
Good on you, Australia. The fight we are engaged in is an ideological fight. Those who believe in the ideology of an Islamic state ought to be barred entry into the U.S. Already, U.S. immigration law forbids naturalization of members of various Communist parties. The same should be extended to Islamist extremists. Not only should they be barred from U.S. citizenship, but they should be denied any form of legal immigration into this country. I'd say that would take care of several hundred imams from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt who are fomenting hatred on U.S. soil because they have received
R-1 "religious worker" visas.

Immigrants. The Good Kind.
The next time you have a right-wing friend who goes off in a hissy over immigration, please show them these pictures. Yes, there are many ill consequences to the massive influx of illegal immigrants. But there is also something profoundly moving to know that your country has the capacity to draw people from around the world who are willing to risk their lives for a place and a people which are not their own. Welcome to America's finest new citizens.
Yahoo NewsUS soldiers attend a swearing-in ceremony for citizenship, at Camp Victory in Baghdad. One hundred and forty seven foreign-born US military personnel serving in Iraq gathered inside one of Saddam Hussein's former palaces to take the oath of US citizenship.

The only thing I found wrong with the Italians when I went
there was that only a very small handful spoke any English.
They all were speaking Italian. Whats up with that?

But I was visiting a girlfriend up in the Trento area.
The view from up in the mountains were so beautiful. But then
again, I think that is partly because of where I am from. Texans
tend to think oceans and mountains are beautiful. Maybe because
Texas is mostly flat and dry.

Oyster: #1 I did to catch on. #2 I don't believe anyone means all immigrants are bad. We refer to the ones who come here and then bab mouth the United States. Many immigrants become Americans almost overnight. Joining, enjoying and basking in this great society. You obviously married the right immigrant. Others never seem to fit in. Particularly the ones from the near east. They never become real Americans regardless of the paper someone gives them. You get my meaning. We have some who have been here for generations and are not Americans. It is easy to pick them out. Their own mouths tell where their hearts are. As a consequence, they seldom advance in this great country. Then they come with the excuses. Which in reality is simply jealousy caused by their own failure.

Blog Sabbath Caption Contest: Beneath the Planet of the Apes Edition WINNERS

Caption this photo of a Hiroshima protest gone terribly wrong.*
Winners picked arbitrarily by me, Admiral Rusty Shackleford:
D. Carter: Japan and the U.S. share many interests: a healthy private sector, baseball, and a lethal distate for mimes.
Romeo Delta: Upon hearing that Tom Cruise's "War Of The Worlds" would soon make its Tokyo premiere, thousands of Japanese viewers of "The Last Samurai" commit seppuku.
Graeme: Reluctantly, Andrew Lloyd Webber, after many protests by patrons and theatre critics waving "No more Hiroshima" signs, decided to cancel further performances of his much maligned new musical, The Phantom of Hiroshima.
Special mention to KG for gratuitous Futurama references: No one really worships the atomic bomb anymore, it's mainly a Christmas and Easter thing, really.

Christian Egyptian Hostage Released in Iraq
Good news. A previously unidentified hostage in Iraq has been released. His name is Victor Tawfiq Girgis, and he is a Christian Copt from Egypt. The terrorists behind these acts seem to have found that their audience does not approve of the murder of hostages. Notice in the story, reprinted below, that our
allies the Egyptians say he was delivering supplies to the US Army of
occupation. Who needs enemies with friends like these?

More Nazi Nonsense
Harry Belafonte Calls Black Republicans 'Tyrants'
Day-O, Daayyyy-O Daylight come and it's time to blow smoke.....
Atlanta (CNSNews.com) - Celebrity activist Harry Belafonte
referred to prominent African-American officials in the Bush administration as "black tyrants" at a weekend march, and he also compared the administration to Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany.
Belafonte, a featured speaker at Saturday's march in Atlanta commemorating the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act, previously ignited a political controversy in 2002 when he likened then-Secretary of State Colin Powell to a "house slave."
At Saturday's civil rights march, Belafonte said the Bush administration has been "rather dismal" for the lives of black Americans. The march, which featured prominent civil rights groups and labor union representatives, was intended to drum up support for extending and strengthening the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Belafonte used a Hitler analogy when asked about what impact prominent blacks such as former Secretary of State Powell and current Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had on the Bush administration's relations with minorities."
Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich. Color does not necessarily denote quality, content or value," Belafonte said in an exclusive interview with Cybercast News Service."Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy", HUH???? I think you've been totin bananas in the hot sun too long. Or, maybe your just a liar.
Companion OpiniPundit
UPDATE BY RS: Jews? In the hierarchy of the Third Reich? Talk about retarded.
Be sure to check out the response from other black Republicans Mike King, La Shawn Barber, and Dane Bramage. And check out what the other moonbats at the rally said over at Michelle Malkin's place.

Just think of the media uproar if Dan Quail had said something this stupid and this false.
Or how about a prominent conservative citizen like Charlton Heston saying something this ignorant. The media would crucify him.
Why does Bellefonte get a free pass to be such an idiot? Is it that expectations are so low for blacks in the media? Man talk about racism.

Treasonous Cleric Flees England
Bird escapes cage to rejoin flock?
Tim from Opinion Bug e-mails me this from
the BBC:
A controversial Islamic cleric has left the UK for the Middle East amid speculation he would be investigated for treason, said his spokesman.
Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed - former head of radical group Al Muhajiroun - left on Saturday for Lebanon, his colleague Anjem Choudary told the BBC....
Mr Choudary said the cleric believed "Britain had declared war on Muslims".
England declared war on
Muslims? Let's see, in England you can practice your Islamic faith, including openly proseletyzing Christians to become Muslims. Is there a single Islamic country that can say the same? No?
QED.
UPDATE: Good discussion by Megan McArdle on this over at he-who-will-not-be-named's blog and by Gene Volokh. I would only add that speech laws must be context oriented. What one can say in a time of peace must be different than in a time of war. Those that think otherwise must share a different value system than myself. Personally, I think human life is much more valuable than speech. If killing the enemy is legitimate, then stifling his speech must also be.
UPDATE II: From the vast Jawa archives comes this quote from Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed. Traitor? You be the judge:
If an Iraqi Muslim carried out an attack like that in Britain, it would be justified because Britain has carried out acts of terrorism in Iraq.

Jihadis Training Child Terrorists
A new video produced by Iraqi terrorists shows children preparing to join the jihad. The video may be
downloaded here or
here. (via Doubletap at
Vlad's forum). Images from the video are below.
At first I thought the video might be something like jihadi porn. A girl is shown in a burka with slow-motion close-ups of her exposed hands. That'll get your every day camel-humping jihadi terrorist hot and bothered. Show some skin baby!
But then, if you listen to the girls voice, you realize she is just a child. Perhaps in her early teens at best. Ok, so maybe it's just a young sounding shahid on her way to inherit her 72 grapes from the Lord of Moons.
Later in the video, though, another child joins the scene. This one is very young. Definitely a child. Both now carry pistols, praise Allah, and cry for vengance.
Disgusting. I often hear from the Left that the War in Iraq has left thousands of children dead and millions more with no hope. However, what kind of society that would be created if we were to give up and pull out? Just one more reason we must win in Iraq. It's for the children.

Also Rusty I read a while back that the Taliban are recruiting/ demanding younger and younger boys to join them in SE Afghanistan. They have been hit hard this year and it shows their desperation.

I agree, we do need to win this war, and not only for the
children, but for the women also. We also need to have the
Iraqi scrap any part of the new constitution that even smells
of the old Taliban regime. And even if they do believe this
life is just "tissue", they don't give it the value that some
of do once it is a life.

Man on Terror Watch List Arrested in Maryland
A man on the FBI's terror watch list was arrested in Maryland last night.
WSTM:
TOWSON, Md. Baltimore County police say they arrested a man whose name appears on the national Terror Watch List late last night on the Baltimore beltway.
Federal Bureau of Investigation Baltimore field office spokeswoman Tia Ford identified the man as 27-year-old Muhammad Asif Haider of New York City. She says the Pakistani man was indicted last week in New York on immigration fraud charges.
Baltimore County Police say an officer made a routine check of the watch list when he pulled Haider over near the Reisterstown Road exit of the Beltway and his name was a match. County police are holding Haider until federal officials can interview him.
Notice it was a
local cop doing his job that nabbed the guy. This is the way its supposed to work. Hat tip:
Jeff Quinton.

There are many more of these people and their allies all over the US. We need to be super vigilent right now because I'm pretty sure that the jihadis are desperate to prove that they can hit us hard.
Many people support these extremists and are sponcoring their entry into our country. A large number of potential jihadis are entering the US by claiming persecution. We need to stop the flow of immigrants from all countries that have a large Muslim population, perhaps stop all Muslims from whatever country from coming here until this danger passes.
I predict this political correctness will cost us thousands of lives, and I hope then we will be mad enough to do away with it{PC) forever.

STOP WITH THE NAZIS ALREADY!
As As you may or may not have noticed by the headline, I'm rather perturbed. It seems that the illustrious
James Dobson has been called down by Jews for
referring to the destruction of embryonic stem cells in comparison to the Jews killed in the Nazi holocaust.
Dr. Dobson is a good man. I'm sure his heart's in the right place. And I agree with him about the fetal stem cells, albeit not necessarily for the same reasons. But I do have a problem here. Everyone is referring to everyone else as a Nazi. Or they're referring to something as being as horrible as the holocaust. And maybe they're right. Certainly killing millions of children every year is a horrendous tragedy. What is currently happening in Dafur is an atrocity. The things that Hussein did are nearly universally accepted to be horrible.
But we have GOT to start laying off the whole Nazi/holocaust comparison. Jewish people are still fairly sensitive to it (with good reason), and the ONLY thing it does in this day and age is cause backlash against whatever cause you're trying to potray as NOT being Nazis. You mention the Nazis, and suddenly EVERYONE'S up in arms against you. Nothing good comes out of it when you refer to someone else as a Nazi.
So, people on the right AND people on the left, please listen to my plea and stop calling each other Nazis. Stop referring to Auschwitz unless you are talking about your history paper. Stop comparing how many of your people were killed to how many of the Jews were killed. And then, maybe we can get over being offended and start moving in the right direction.
Oh, and as a final note, from the way they run their blogs, I suspect the following people of being Nazis:
Glenn Reynolds

Rusty Shackleford
Bill Indrolino
Hugh Hewitt

Other than places like, say Mississippi and Alabama, Texas or Florida, the only "Gulf" countries generally are those on said Persian/Arabian Gulf.
Perhaps "Arabian Peninsula" would have worked better.

Japan's Manhattan Project
It's not known by many, and never mentioned by Hiroshima/Nagasaki "peace activists", but Imperial Japan had its own version of the American Manhattan Project. In fact, the
History Channel will air a documentary on August 16 making the
case that a nuclear device was tested on an island off Korea on August 12, 1945 - six days after "Little Boy" devastated Hiroshima. Professor Robert Wilcox of Bowling Green State University will present evidence of a Japanese atomic test, while his colleague, Dr. Walter Grunden, will argue the opposing view.
BOWLING GREEN, O.—In his 1985 book, “Japan’s Secret War,” Robert Wilcox contends Japan successfully tested a nuclear device on Aug. 12, 1945—six days after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and three days after the attack on Nagasaki.
What if President Harry S. Truman had been more like Bill Clinton and less like Ronald Reagan?

This is just spaceman history, and is no different than the crazy shit proposed by the professor who is suspicious about what really happened on 9/11. What's the difference? It supports conservative interpretations of Hiroshima & Nagasaki, so you nut cases actually buy into it.
Rusty, if you had any credibility left you'd exclude this sort of idiocy from your site, or portray it in the same light as the 9/11 stuff, which, by the way, only 1 in 10,000 accademics would think worthy of consideration.
Yeah, the Japanese could have used a nuclear devise against a U.S. invasion. That's the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time... and I've visited this site quite often in the past couple weeks so that's saying quite a bit.

Isn't that cute? The Perfesser (community college junior instructor at best?) makes a number of unsupported assertions and then complains of a lack of academic rigor in the post.
Anyone who thinks the Imperial Japanese would have rejected the use of a 25 kiloton nuke to thwart an American invasion of the home islands is ignorant of history (that would be you, Van Nostril) or erroneously applying today's "progressive" thinking to a conflict that ended sixty years ago.

The Professor has a good point, Bluto. No one doubts that the Japs would have used the bomb, but I've never heard that they actually
tested one. This follows close on the heels of The History Channel running such in-depth and ground-breaking documentaries such as "Aliens: Fact or Fiction? You decide." Man, have they sunk to a new low. Seriuosly, the Japs were very good at copying advanced technology, but have never been good at developing it themselves. Even if they had the plans given to them by the Germans, just as they got plans for jet-engine technology, it would have taken them much longer to develop than it did the Germans.
But Professor, this type of insane historical revisionism can't be compared to 9/11 moonbattery. One is done in the context of 60 years later, while the other is used to deligitimize an ongoing war. It would be something like gainsaying the Maine incident in the midst of WWII. Not very relevant. On the other hand, had Americans in the mid 1940s tried to wirte that FDR plotted Pearl Harbor, then they would find themselves in jail as a traitor. Big difference, now and then.

Rusty... must you insist continuing to suggest that I or any significant number of sane individuals doubt what happened on 9/11 (see my latest post for more on this)...
You lose more and more credibility every time you suggest that any sizable number on the left believe any sort of conspiracy theory about 9/11... somehow, I think you already know this, but that you are continuing to play to your audience. Which, of course, would be intellectually bankrupt of you, if true.

Rusty. If you want to continue to make the argument that the 9/11 conspiracy "moonbats" are from the left, please explain the article by William Norman Grigg, entitled "Did We Know What Was Coming?" in The New American (published by the John Birch Society).
Is there a group more on the right wing wacked out fringe than the John Birchers?
I think we should consider this case as closed and you should turn to some better, more honest rhetoric to advance your evil cause.

My 'evil' cause? If the cause of America winning its wars are 'evil', then count me in. At some point being an American ought to trump all ideological arguments. We are at war, let us win. That is my only cause.
John Birchers? Anyway, the right has succesfully marginalized its conspiracy nuts. The left cannot say the same. Not a day goes by where some one comments in an old thread about the Zionist conspiracy and this or that act of terrorism. If you think these comments are coming from the right, then you don't know much.

HST did the right thing whether they had "the bomb" or not. It saved millions of lives - both ours and theirs, It also cut at least 2 years off the war and probably 3. The Japs fought to the death. Literally to the last man. Take a look at the stats on Okinawa, Guadal Canal.... I have many relatives who were fighting the Japs in 45 and to a man they said HST did the right thing. To a man, no doubts.

Rusty. My point was not that the "what really happened on 9/11" crowd comes from the right or left. The point was that they are irrelevant no matter how much virtual ink you want to give them, and to portray the left as a bunch of wackos who believe "the government" facilitated 9/11 is more than just dishonest.
Your suggestion that "if you read Chomsky or Zinn or Said all of this begins to make sense" is just ridiculous. Each one of those guys believes nothing of the sort (especially Said since he's dead).
Your suggestion that Americans abandon their duty as human beings to oppose unjust war defeats itself, but I refuse to believe that you actually think that being a patriot requires that we check our morality at the door. The problem with you righties is that you have never been able to comprehend that sometimes duty to America and its principles requires us to speak out against the things its government does in our names. Aside from that, there are a multitude of realist scholars (not to mention the evidence on the ground) who think this war is creating more terrorists than it is eliminating; if that's true, I think it is probably pretty important that somebody speak out about it.

We won the Calcutta betting pool. The tourament cash. A 150hp 4 Stoke outboard from Yamaha. A $20,000 bay boat. I spent over 3 years and $150,000 to finally win one of the big ones.
What do I get from you computer freaks. Nothing. Not a word. A regular on your blog wins and nothing.

Osama never been no where. Is your yankee ass worn out too? To busy kissing Al Shartons black ass to contribute? Or perhaps, you took the subway and was mugged by a bunch of Clinton subporters.
Morimoto: If the facts of life hurt you, I am sorry. Have you given up so soon? Is that true faith? Faith over country and race. Interesting. Sounds akin to a muslim way of thinking. Isn't that what they proclaim?
So, easy quiters, here it is. Muslims suck and the Greyrooster rules. Always knew it. Liberals wear panties. There can be no other reason. Those who kill babies are heartless bastards thinking only of themselves. The solution. Rubbers.
Everyone is great except muslims. But white people are the best. The most generous, the best in business, the most compassionate, the most inventive, the best looking, the list can go on forever.
Islamofacism must be contained NOW. The method matters not. Civilization must win at all costs.
Religion is Okay as long as it is secular. Except Islam which must be banned and preferably eradicated for the peace of the world.
I have run my mouth enough. I have drank enough. Goodnight. And may all that disagree kiss my ass.

was trying to negotiate a peace with Russia, since they
were the only major power currently not at war with Japan.
The story also said that Japan was willing to surrender to
us on one condition, that the Emperor stayed on the throne
after the surrender. This was supposedly taking place around
the end of May and early July. The story also said that the
only reasons we dropped the bombs were
1. We spent 2 billion on them and wanted to see them work.
2. By dropping the bomb, we would have a much greater advantage
over the Russians in the post war talks. Much like laying
your Peacemaker on the gambling table.
3. By forcing the Japs to surrender to our terms, we could
keep the Russians out of all talks about Japan.
Now I am not saying it is true or not. I need to do more research,
but it is interesting. If Japan was willing to surrender, (keeping
in mind their one condition, which they got anyways), then Truman
actually help the war drag on so we could finish the the bombs, and
that he did kill 185 k people (in the name of science.) Now I admit
that I never heard this until the show on Sat Night. I always
thought the Japs were the true "Die Hards". As anyone else ever
hear of the Japs wanting to surrender pre Hiroshma? If so, can
you point me to some sources on it.

I have never read that the Japs tested a nuke, but I did read somewhere that uranium (or plutonium? I forget) was one of the materials the Nazis were smuggling to the Japanese islands via their sub convoys.

The argument is false right out of the gate. If the Japanese had been so willing to surrender before Hiroshima, then why did they wait until after Nagasaki? I watched some History channel this weekend, but must have missed the program you are talking about, as the ones I watched on the subject just stated the facts.

Peter Von Nostrand: What's so funny about your complete dismissal of the possibility of Japan's detonation of a nuclear device is that it coincide's with so much of the left's decisions on what's provable conspiracy and what's not. It seems that the main criteria for consideration of any conspiracy is whether or not the US is named as the perpetrator. If it was, then the conspiracy MUST be true. If not, then we must give everyone else the benefit of the doubt or discount it entirely. If the conspiracy truly has been proven to be perpetrated by someone else, then the US is blamed for driving them to it. It's a lose/lose situation for us with you guys, isn't it?
It's that "self-loathing" thing that permeates the left so thoroughly that it's not enough that they hate their country for providing them with an advantage by ensuring their liberty, they must try to push everyone else into the same mindset of guilt and blame.

Defense Guy, The show started around 11:30pm Central, on Aug 6.
Most of the time I would agree with you. But I can see the reason
why some people could believe this. Like I said, most of the reason
HST supposedly want to drop the bomb was in intimidating Russia,
more so then ending the war with Japan. Also, the reason why
the Japs did not surrender was they wanted to ensure that the
emperor would stay on the throne, which we did not promise them.
If you do see anything on this theory, I would be grateful if
you pass it on.
While we are talking history, although of a different time, I
hope to switch topic just for a sec. Can anyone tell
me what the distance is from Ricall, England to Stamford Bridge, England (in miles or Kilometers.) I have never found out the distance, but I found many case of how far it is from London to York and York to Stamford Bridge.

At the time Hitler has realized his mistake(didn't believe in the bomb) and that Germany was going down. Ever wonder why heavy industial targets were #1 one the list? Yes everyone was chasing the bomb. But if your capability TO MAKE ONE IS LOST FIRST you pretty much have to surrender now don't you.
Grandpa was able to make a trip to Nagasaki while in Japan after the surrender. All he has to say is it was worse than the worst you can imagine. Worse than watching bodies bob in the surf and listening to them belch and fart all night after laying in the hot sun while you hid in your foxhole. Bones of the dead glowed for six months from the excited phosphorus. Yes one terrible tradgedy was chosen over another atrocity and at that time it was the right thing to do. One to end WWII and also as a demostration however horrid of that which is to come. We all hope and pray that these were the first and last times nuclear weapons were and will ever be used against human beings anywhere.
But antimatter triggered H bombs wow wouldn't that be cool. More punch with no heavy isotopes.
Humans are stupid. I don't for a minute believe that trumpet soundings are predetermined by by God. The timing anyway. He has seen how we will all end up. But also he has given us that gift of self determination too. When the nuclear trumpet is sounded again there will be no one to blame but us (all of us a humans) and I'm sure justice will be exacted. The sad truth is that we have set the outcome not God. We will not be able to overcome out hatred of each other and eventually that trumpet will sound. Shame shame on us all. Forgive us Father for we know not what we do.

I wonder what is inside the mind of those who rationalize why the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA dropped a bomb 60 years after the fact.
Why doesn't anyone talk about the bombings we and our allies did to the Germans? Ever seen those pictures. We destroyed city after city. Total destruction. Never a mention. Hmmmmm.
Oh yea! They were Nazis and not cannibals.

All Seven Russian Submariners Saved
From the
Associated Press PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, Russia - All seven people aboard the Russian mini-submarine pulled to the surface Sunday are alive, Russian naval officials said.
Naval spokesman Capt. Igor Dygalo said the crew appeared to be in satisfactory condition and were being examined by ship medics. The sub was raised after becoming stranded in 600 feet of water off the Pacific Coast on Thursday.
Sometimes things work out.

The whole idea of abstinence scares the crap out of them. If people actually practice it, they become irrelevant. So they mock morality by equating it with religious fundamentalism and encourage hate and violence. Nice.

If anyone is an American Taliban, it would be the ridiculous right wing, who wants to force every woman to their way of thinking. They are ridiculous for believing that everyone will really proscribe to abstinence. I would guess that they only reason most (over 50%) teenage boys are abstinence is because they canÂ’t find a girl
to do it with. (Not counting high school teachers.

)
Now I admit the cartoon from the link was a little stupid, but the message that PPH is sending is legit. “ “IF” you are going to engage in non marital sex, then protect yourself and your partner with condoms." As for the beheading and drowning of the Pro Lifer, and please correct me if I am wrong, but I have never heard of a Pro Choicer killing a Pro Lifer in real life. But the same can not be

But in order to have a death, one must be born first. Abortions
have never killed a "Living and Breathing being."
And Pro Choices are not abandoning the "thousand year old beliefs"
that life is sacred. We are just defining when life begins.
Also, I believe that the PPH gives out better advice then
the Papacy. With all the diseases going around now adays, it is much
better to wrap up then go all natural. But if you do wrap up, then
you wont have 6 or 8 kids, you will be most like poor and un educated,
and can be more easily brained washed by one of Joesph Mengeles fellow
Germans now sitting in Rome.

Aborting is a terrible terrible option. Personally it's a medical fact that fertilized eggs fail to implant all the time. Also I'm not sure that taking a skin cell and a donated egg to get stem cells is all that bad. But for sure abourting once a woman is pregnant is not a good thing. The only worse thing I can think of is some girl having made that descision which she will regret 20 years later is for her to have the procedure done by some butcher in a back alley. Two wrongs don't make a right. It's between he, Her and Her God. What the government should have to do with it I don't know. A fetus is vaible pretty early these days. Just becuase it has not breathed yet does not mean it's not alive and can not breath if it needed too. We should work to reduce not outlaw abortion. To outlaw it won't stop it. In India midwives do it with pressure applied to the outside of the body. It will exist anyway.

"We are just defining when life begins." How noble of you.
Bear in mind, Butch is the one who defines abortion as:
"...abortion (the removing of
a parasitic growth that has the "potential" of becoming a living
breathing person.)"
He has convinced himself that right up until the very moment a child takes a breath they are fair game and can be killed without compunction. Personally, I find that repugnant.
Posted by: Oyster at August 08, 2005 11:51 AM (fl6E1)
15
Your are correct Oyster, that is my definition about abortion.
But you are wrong about "until the very moment a child takes a breath"
because I don't see a child, but "a parasitic growth that has the "potential" of becoming a living breathing person".
And it is perfectly okay for you to feel repugnant. That is
your choice. But how would you feel if the government came down
and told you that to feel repugnant is against the law. If
they catch you, off you go to the slammer. Not so good, hum.
I do feel that Howie has the right of it all. That the decision
of abortion is really between God, the woman, (and my opinion) the
doctor performing it. If a woman gets abortion in Texas, is this
going to effect anyone in NY, or CA. No. What about even in her
same city. No. Will it bring about the down fall of Civilization,
I don't think so.
Defense guy, what I am basing life on is the lowest common
denominator. I believe, (and this is my opinion), that everyone
in the world would consider a breathing entity, (person, cat, dog, ect) as alive. I think I can say no one will debate that point.
But pre birth, there has been much debate. Is it alive at conception,
or 1st trimester, 2nd, or 3rd?
Posted by: Butch at August 08, 2005 12:18 PM (Gqhi9)
16
Yes Butch, and to answer that question, whether or not it is a "life" by giving it an arbitrary definition yourself with absolutely no empirical evidence, could very well mean that a crime is being committed if you're wrong. So those who rely on such decisions in such a manner only wish to clear their conscience. Nothing more. Our laws are not infallible. No one knows when "life" begins. When one becomes a human worthy of the right to live.
All I've ever wanted to hear is for one pro-choice person to admit they could be wrong and that erring on the side of caution would be the most prudent approach, but that would be inconvenient, wouldn't it?
Your question of how I would feel if the government told me my repugnance is against the law has absolutely no bearing on the argument at hand. You gave your opinion and I gave mine. That's it. The government came down on your side of the argument so your statement is moot anyway.
The current argument, however, is not about abortion, but it's what we teach our kids about sex. The argument so many are simply trying to make is that abstinence MUST be part of the education. It is not - and Planned Parenthood fights that all the way even though religion has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with it. Some, even me, are very cautious supporters of abortion, in cases of health risks for mother or child.
Discussing abstinence should be part of the program. To eliminate it from education is irresponsible. Planned Parenthood is engaging in the worst form of misinformation with that cartoon video. And that is the ommission of the only sure fire way to prevent pregnancy or disease and demonizing those who who advocate it. To equate the
common sense of abstinence to religious fundamentalism is ridiculous. It's a lame excuse to say that one is pushing their morals or religious beliefs on others.
They certainly aren't being taught ALL the options in school amidst all the bananas and diagrams. They're being taught safe sex, they're even being encouraged, but not being taught consequence when that fails.

The law has already defined this issue. The Lacy Peterson case is an example of a person begin charged and convicted of murdering a child still in the womb.
Not breathing. Not human? I quess all people on a mechanical lung are not really human. Just parasites.
Parasite. Something that lives off another. I suspect American society has more parasites outside the womb than inside.
Posted by: greyrooster at August 08, 2005 10:11 PM (CBNGy)

Oyster,
I agree, that abstinence should be taught along side
safe sex. That both should be taught together. And for those
who want to live a life of abstinence, that is all good. But
for those who don't, then lets educated them as much as possible
in order for them to have safe sex. And part of the education
would be to point out the consequence. Also as I stated, the
cartoon was stupid in my opinion, but the pro lifer have
committed worst crimes then this, (blowing up clinics).
And just to make your day, I, a pro choicer, will admit that
I could be wrong about when life begins. But since we do
not have 100% or even 51% proof positive that life begins
pre birth, I choose to err on the side of the life that is
currently in no doubt, the woman.
And Rooster, I stated that life begins when one takes a breath.
That does not mean they stop living if placed on a machine. They are
already alive. As for the Peterson case, I believe, (my opinion),
that Scott is a murderer, but not a serial killer.
The only thing I am trying to get across is abortion should
not be outlawed, and that every woman will need to make her own choice on having one or not. And every doctor will have to make the choice to perform one or not. As for sex education, I feel both
abstinence and safe sex should be taught together. And that neither
should be promoted more then the other. But I believe that each
individual should have a choice in which they want to follow.

Gay Inmates Abused
Apparently, the California Constitution guarantees the right of people to not be called names.
From the SacBee:
About 20 gay inmates were forced to remove their clothes in a busy hallway July 19 at the Men's Central Jail while being called names and taunted with vulgar sexual language by some deputies, the ACLU said in a letter to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, citing inmates' claims.
"Such behavior by staff demonstrates a level of immaturity, lack of professionalism, and sadism, which tarnishes the reputation of the entire department," wrote Ricardo Garcia and Jody Kent, who monitor jailhouse issues for the ACLU of Southern California.
The ACLU wanted anti-discrimination training for all deputies.
The same thing
happened to me. I went to boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois, and was called names and taunted with vulgar sexual language everyday. It's nice to see the ACLU devoting resources to the dangerous problem of name-calling. What a bunch of dicks.

Eleanor Clift & Washington Press Corp Swoon Over Markos Zuniga
Is it just me, or is Eleanor Clift retarded? So let me get this straight: every single candidate that Markos 'Screw Them' Zuniga raises money for, including Paul Hackett,
has lost, yet Eleanor Clift thinks that Kos is somehow an
effective Democratic strategist?
Ok, maybe she's not retarded, but at a minimum she is the poster child of the partisan Washington media. Note in this Newsweek article, written by Clift, that the Washington Post sent no less than three reporters to swoon over Kos at a left-wing blogger forum (hat tip: Meme Random). That's right, three reporters! And to cover what? The fact that Kos endorsed a candidate that almost won in an off-year low-turnout election? The last time I checked, almost didn't count in politics. Hand grenades and horse-shoes, yes. Politics, no.
Here's how Clift describes serial loser Kos:
Leading the charge was Markos Moulitsas, founder of the progressive Daily Kos, which attracts hundreds of thousands of daily visits and is considered one of the most popular political blogs on the Internet. For Democrats desperate to find their way back to a winning coalition, Moulitsas, 33, has emerged as one of the most creative thinkers and activists in the progressive ranks. The Post team, along with reporters from other national publications and scores of political operatives, had come to get a glimpse of the future.
The future, eh? Let's hope. Since every one of Kos's cause celebres has lost, the future looks bright indeed.
Moulitsas is opposed to the Iraq war but says that isnÂ’t what drew him to Hackett.
Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Did I mention
bullshit?
“It’s not about ideology, pro-war, antiwar, it makes no difference,” he insisted. “In the online world, we need Democrats to stand up, not be afraid of Republicans, not be afraid of the right-wing noise machine … We don’t care about ideology. We care that you stand up for the party and don’t run scared.”
And the first thing I noticed about my wife was her amazing household organizational skills. The fact that she's hot and is extremely stacked had
nothing to do with it.
Right.
I get the feeling it took every ounce of self-restraint Eleanor had to keep herself from throwing her panties on to the stage at Markos.
The boyishly slight Moulitsas responded with an engaging smile, saying that he wished he could claim he was a grand visionary and that his blog was part of a master plan to take over the world. He had no idea it would take off the way it has. It was his way of dealing with the angst he felt as an Army veteran who opposed the Iraq war at a time when any disagreement with President Bush was thought to be almost treasonous. Moulitsas is no stranger to war. He had spent part of his youth in El Salvador, his mother’s native land, during that country’s brutal civil war. Back home in Chicago, he enlisted in the Army at age 17 and spent two and a half years with an artillery unit in Germany. After college and law school, he ended up designing Web pages in San Francisco. He supported the bombing in Afghanistan but was so viscerally opposed to the invasion of Iraq that he was driving his wife and boss and cubicle mate crazy, he recalls. “It was either start a blog and just vent or lose my entire social circle,” he said. Pretty soon he had 100 online visitors, more than he could accommodate in his house, he remembers thinking. When he hit 1,000, he thought to himself, “I’m done,” but he kept going--and now he’s Moses leading Democrats to the promised land.
Did Markos mention he was a
veteran? Because, you know,
veterans can't be anti-American traitors.
Hell, Benedict Arnold was a national hero. He was just 'anti-war' not 'anti-American'. He just wanted the war to end so that American soldiers could go back to their farms and not die for the neo-con vision of an American empire. Hell, George Washington didn't even supply his troops with enough shoes to last the winter. And that chickenhawk Thomas Jefferson didn't even volunteer his own sons for the war!
Rick Moran over at Right Wing Nuthouse notes that on the Markos has a reality quotient of 0.4. But who's more out of touch with reality: Kos or the left-wing Washington press corps fawning over him?
Others: Talk Left thinks the article is inspiring. Me too. I'm inspired to go out and buy a Tom Jones album.
MyDD plays down Kos role. Aw shucks, don't give me credit for Hacket losing.
Iowa Voice--right on the money. Bill Quick, too.

Hatchet-face Eleanor Rodham Clift has been so far out of touch fo so long she's like floating space debris looking for a place to land.
Thanks for making me toss breakfast. You had to mention her panties, didn't you?

I eagerly anticipate the day when social order collapses in this country and chaos reigns, so that good citizens can hunt down POS leftards like the untermenschen they are. Unfortunately, that will probably never happen, and it's more likely that he will remain a well paid party apparatchik whore until his death of old age. Oh well, at least Peter Jennings bit the dust, now for Rather...

Of course Elenor loves Kos - he's Michael Moore without a camera.

I think it's great that she'll get him even more traffic so people can go there, read the comments and see just how unhinged these people are. Maybe some of the new visitors will see just the kind of people they're aligning themselves with and at the very best, some will be pushed closer to center and distance themsleves from the freaks. The only way the Democratic Party can be saved is for the very left wing of it to self-destruct or become pariahs.

True story (told to me by a friend who is a retired editor from
Newsweek): Eleanor Clift was the wife of Montgomery Clift's alcoholic brother, and through that connection got a secretarial job at
Newsweek back in the '70s. When an obscure peanut farmer from Georgia decided to run for President none of the regular reporters figured he had a chance, so no one wanted the assignment to his campaign. Instead of assigning a staff reporter, they assigned the secretary, and the rest is history. I wouldn't say she owes here career so much to good judgment as happenstance.

The law of averages states that Kos has to win one eventually. This will be used as evidence that he was right all along. I say let them continue to lie to themselves, as it is takes far more work to manage a lie, and in the end the attempt is probably doomed to failure. In the meantime, at least it gives the rational something to laugh at.

I agree that the more publicity Kos gets, the better for the right. Any non-moonbat who visits his site will be shocked..shocked at the level of obscenity, tin-foil hat conspiracy theories, and general disrespect and contempt for this country and its values. His man Dean is now running the DNC, MoveOn.org is the future of the party, and all we have to do is put them on display to chase the last few sane people out of the democratic party.

I see no worthyness in regurgitating Elanor "Rodham" Clift's meanderings. The Dems are lost in the desert. The real crisis I see is no emerging leader on the conservative side. Who is there for Kos to go against? Bill Frist? Ha! He pissed away his support from the right and has nothing to show for it. Who then? Suggestions anyone?

Clift says: "Moulitsas, 33, has emerged as one of the most creative thinkers and activists in the progressive ranks."
Yes, DailyKos is a center of creative thought. Check out these deep-thinking quotes:

quick - 'Moses leading people to the Promised Land' point ..
One wonders if either Eleanor or Markos understands that Moses did not take the people into the promised land.
Aaron did.
Which is to say, so long as Markos/Moses is active in Democratic politics, the Dems won't have control of the Executive or Legislative branch.
Sounds about right.

Aaron died before going into the Promised Land and before Moses. Joshua and Elazar the Kohen were the leaders at the time of going to EY. But if it had not been for Moses and Aaron, the Jewish people would not have gotten out of Egypt or to the state where they could get to the Promised Land.

Paul Hackett did lose. But it is significant that the race was a race at all, given the highly pro-Bush district. Kos was doing his job in bringing attention to the race.

ELEANOR, THE APPOINTMENT OF MIERS IS A PRELUDE TO THE APPOINTMENT OF bush'S REAL PREFERENCE. By naming Miers and causing a big hullaballoo, she will be tossed out and THEN bush WILL NAME ALBERTO GONZALES TO MOVE INTO THE COURT SLOT, WHICH WAS ROVE'S PLAN TO WIN.
(My computer once showed Gonzales' vita as his having been born in Mexico, vita was changed?)

I would like to email you but do not find your address. By the time y ou'd get a snail mail, the court will be filled. So the method of getting Alberto Gonzales appointed as Justice, will be a fait accompli by the time the USA gets my letter to you. Please read my comments on the appointment. I am often right in my predictions and am sorry I'll be right about this one. Elizabeth Roberts 830 437 1136.

Phase II of the War Against Liberalism?
Gosh, there are all kinds of new concepts suggesting themselves to me lately, from
The First Counterwar to
Totalitarianism 3.0. But juxtaposing Jeff Goldstein's observations about
the use of the Western Left's rhetoric by the jihadists with the
"Perfidious George's" poetic use of jihadist rhetoric (together with his prototypical neo-fascist smirk at the funny way Sharon says "terrorrrrrrize") to incite the "Arab Street," suggests that all three strains of Counter-enlightenment illiberalism (Marxism, Nazism and Islamism) have finally begun to merge. If the rhetoric has become one, will not actions soon follow?
[Note to people who still use the term "liberalism" to refer to the Left, or socialism: Get over it. The US together with the Scots invented liberalism in the 17th and 18th centuries, and it's about time we became its standard-bearers again. It's time we put a stop to the corruption of the term.]

I often find it valuable to restudy the definition of words. The discussion of Liberalism and its bastardization by the modern Left brings to mind another word that has been morphed. Having been changed by socio-economic movements of the left and 20th Century history, my current definition may offer insight into the mind of the Western Left and their attitude toward radical Islamic Theo-totalitarianism.
Main Entry: fas•cism Pronunciation Guide
Pronunciation: fa]shizm, faa], fai] also ]si- sometimes fä] or f]
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): -s
Etymology: Italian fascismo, from fascio bundle, political group + -ismo -ism
1 often capitalized : the principles of the Fascisti; also : the movement or governmental regime embodying their principles
2 a : any program for setting up a centralized transnational oligarchic regime with severely transnationalistic policies, exercising regimentation of industry, commerce, and finance, rigid censorship, and forcible suppression of a classic liberal free market capitalist opposition b : any tendency toward or actual exercise of ostensibly democratic but oligarchic and/or unelected supra-legislative dictatorial control (as over other nation-states within a supranational organization); the nascent fascism of a regulator who is not content merely to do his duty -- early instances of collective social fascism and repression -- ; a kind of personal fascism, an elitist oligarchic dictatorship of the ego over the more libertarian elements of the soul.
The modern western left is virulently anti-libertarian as are Islamic Theo-totalitarians. Consciously or unconsciously they share the common goal of controlling others who do not accept the superiority of their visions; thus a kinship of spirit born in hell.

Suicide Attacks a Threat in US
Confidential government sources tell the
New York Times that the threat of an al Qaeda attack against the U.S. remains substantial and that the mode of attack will likely be a suicide attack. In sum, terrorists continue to target the United States and wish to inflict mass casualties resulting in a psychological victory. All of the targets and methods mentioned in the article have been tried elsewhere by the global jihadi network.
Target: mass transit systems
Method: bombs, derailment, or crashing truck carrying flammable material into trains
Precedent: London, Madrid, Moscow
Target 2: high rise apartments
Method: natural gas explosions from rented apartement
Precedent: Moscow
Report suspicious activity to local authorities. It is far better to be overly cautious and wrong then to be oblivious to the threat and too late.
UPDATE: If you are a Muslim you have an even greater responsibility to report suspicious activities to the authorities. We hope law enforcement will take you more seriously than they did in the U.K.

True, but isn't most of what the ACLU does these days considered 'suspicious activity'? Start by reporting the ACLU ;-)

Another attack on America will not have the affect the Islamofacists think. The opposite is more likely. The muslims should by tickets out of here in advance. America is under attack by a religion. All practioners should beware. Why should we place our families, people and country at risk because of a problem religion. Muslims out of America. Some rattlesnakes bite, some don't. I can't tell one from the other. So guess what happens to the ones in my yard.

Well said..this is the only way to be really safe. I still don't know why Muslims choose to live in the Western world as the koran describes it as bad in so many ways...but then again I do know, they are all liars and hypocrates who enjoy shagging their sisters.
